U13 match reports

Prestbury v BSM

Despite the weather and having a number of players not available the season got under way with a narrow defeat.
BSM scored 84 for 6 in their 24 overs with Cameron Meadwell retiring on 31 and Ryan Murphy 16. It took Prestbury until the 21st over to reach the target,

BSM V Disley

Our first win of the season!
Disley batted first and with some very good bowling were restricted to 84 for 8.Liam Howe with 4 for 2 of 2 overs and Jake McCormack with 2 for 0 of 4 being the pick of the bowlers.
In reply the total was reached in 13 overs with 31 retired from James Barber and 21NO from Ryan Murphy.

Cheshire Cup
With Disley having conceeded in the first round we were drawn to play a very strong Didsbury team in the second round.
Unusually Will won the toss and elected to bat first. With some very tight bowling we were restricted to 63 of 20 overs thanks mainly to an excellent 30 retired form Will Hayes.
In reply we also bowled very well and it took Didsbury until the 19th over to record their win. Pick of the bowlers was again Jake McCormack with the brilliant figures of 4 for 1 of 4 overs.

Stockport V BSM
We earned a hard fought second win of the season at Stockport.
Miracle of miracles, Will is on a roll and won the toss once again. This time Will invited Stockport to bat first.
Once again there was some fine bowling and we restricted Stockport to 86 for 5 from their 24 overs. Jake again bowling superbly to record fine figures of 4 for 1 of 4 overs.
Jakes figures for the season so far are 11 overs 5 miadens and 11 for 2.
In reply we got of to a terrible start losing 2 wickets in the first over.
The recovery was made with a fine 31 retired from Will Hayes with good support from Jake McCormack with 16 and a quick fire 14 from Charlie Hughes who hit a glorious 6 in his innings.
At this stage Will has a very impressive average of 75 from his 3 innings.

BSM V Heaton Mersey

Oh how I love this game.

Today we entertained high flying Heaton Mersey and what a performance we gave.

Ryan lost the toss ( back to you Will) and we were put into bat.

In our 24 overs we scored an impressive 123 for 2 with Will Hayes and Ryan Murphy retireing on 31 and 32 respectively and James Barber scoring a quick fire 21.

In reply we took HM to the penultimate ball to reach their target and the pick of the bowlers was again Jake McCormack with 1 for 13 in his 4 overs with goood support from Matthew Beswick and Will Hayes with 0 for 10 and 0 for 12 in their 4 overs.

I have to say this was a superb performance from all the players, including the fielding and we made the joint top team work extremely hard for their win.

I was very proud of all my players this morning and I am sure that many victories will follow with performances like this!!!

Well done boys.

Marple V BSM

With Stockport County playing at Wembley we had a lot of players missing for this game but, with the held of our U11 squad we put out a team tp play Marple and, although we lost, we gave a very creditable performance.

Marple scored 122 and we replied with 100, a excellent performance boys.

Outstanding performances form the ever reliable Will Hayes ( 31no) and Jake McCormack (25) and excellent bowling figures from Liam Howe of 3 for 15 from 4 overs.

Well done boys and a big vote of thanks to the U11`s without whom we would not have been able to field a team, thanks Darren.

Woodford v BSM

Back to winning ways

BSM 132 FOR 5

Woodford 85 for 5

An excellent performance from the boys!

In Wills absence our other players took the opportunity to steal a march on his average. Cameron Meadwell and Jake McCormack both retired on 31 each with James Barber making 27 and a quick fire 17 from Charlie Hughes setting an imposing target for Woodford to chase.

With both openers for Woodford goinmg early I decided that all our players would bowl and the pick of the figures was Matthew Beswicks 3 for 5 from 4 overs.

Can I just mention the number 3 and 4 batsmen for Woodford. I am not sure of their age but they were tiny boys who realyy worked hard for their team. They are:
J Hardy 23
C Cooke 30no

Well done to both of you.

With this win we have finished 5th in the league and qualify to take part in the U13 plate. The fixtures for this will be announced later this week but it looks like our opponents will be:

Chester Boughton Hall
Stretton
Macclesfield
Wistaston
Burnage
Poynton

BSM V Wistaston

Our first game in the plate and a briliant example of how to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

We were a couple of players missing this week and, once again, our thanks go to the U11`s for helping us out.

Batting first (remember Will), we got of to an excellent start with Will and Cameron putting on 34 for the first wicket.
An fine innings from Jake of 32 (retired) then pushed us on and we finished with a very respectable 114 for 3 at the end of our innings.
Well done to Oliver Parr (u11) who came in at 6 and batted very correctly for a score of 9 no.
When we took the field we had a good start and took 3 early wickets.
An excellent innings from the Wistaston opener J Stokes who retired on 30 and 16 from A Fitton kept the game close but with 2 overs to go and Wistaston needing 18 to win we looked to be in the driving seat.
However a determined effort from Golding ( remember the little fella) and support from Bines saw Wistatston through of the penultimate ball of the innings. Not the first time this has happened to us!

A good game which we probably should have won but congratulations to Wistatston for a determined batting display which saw them through.
Unlucky boys but I am sure that we will pull things round in our future games.

As a final note can I mention that, following the game, the manager of Wistaston phoned me to thank us for making them so welcome and the spirit in which bith players and parents played the game. This is what we want to be remembered for.

Chester Boughton Hall V BSM

As the song says " What a difference a week makes " !

We travelled to the lovely ground of CBH and what a performance.

Will won the toss again ( he is on a roll) and this time made the right choice to field first.

Cameron bowled the first over and to say this was a mixed bag is putting it mildly.3 wides, no runs of the bat and 2 wickets. What a start!
Jake joined in with a wicket maiden and, when Cameron took another wicket in his spell we had CBH 14 for 4 of 5 overs.
Afine effort from A Williams (27) and a retirement on 30 from C Barclay saw CBH reach 85 AO in the 19 over.
A special mention to our new recruit, Aaron McRoberts, in his spell of 4 overs, he took 2 for 16 and got a run out.
As we had the unused overs from the first innings we had 29 overs to reach the target and I told the lads they should take their time and bat correctly.
This obviously got through and Will and Ryan batted superbly, both retiring,
Despite some bad luck ( I don`t think it was a no ball Cam) or should I say good bowling from CBH we lost a three wickets in quick succession but, with the start we had, the outcome was never really in doubt and Ryan hit the winning run with a fine 4 which also took him to 31,
Well done lads and lets carry this form forward for the rest of the season.

Finally, a special thanks to CBH for looking after us so well and making us so welcome, I don`t recall ever being provided with Drinks and snacks for a junior game before.

Stretton 76 for 8
BSM 78 for 7

" A close shave"

Ryan was captain for the day and once again we won the toss. we are really on a roll.

We invited Stretton to bat first and. despite being without Jake and Aaron, we bowled really well and restricted Sretton to 76 for 8 of their 24 overs.
A good performance from our new recruit Iggi with 1 for 10 and Andrew with 1 for 13 but the bowling performance of the day goes to Will who returned figures of 2 for 6 of his 4 overs.

An easy target! Don`t you believe it!!

We got of to a bad start losing Ryan early doors but a hard working 11 from Will and a quickfire 16 from Iggi kept us on course.
We then lost a couple of quick wickets but a gritty 17 ( top score ) from Cameron kept us on target.
When Cam went however we dried up and what a struggle we had, only 7 runs from 5 overs brought Stretton right back in it.
However, cometh the hour, cometh the man (or should I say boy)!!
Despite not having had the opportunity to spend to much time at the crease this season Andrew came out looking full of confidence! A few plays and misses followed but then he connected with one which flew to the boundary and won us the match.
There were many impressive performances today but for that shot alone I have to name Andrew as my man of the match.
What a pitty that he ( and Cameron) have chosen to go fishing (??) when we next paly.
Finally, can I give another vote of thanks to our U11, Andrew Phillips, who stepped in at the 11th hour when we lost a player on Sunday morning.
Well done to you all.
