U9 v Prestbury A Thurs July 7

Last night really showed me what its all about, we played Prestbury at their ground and put in another great performance in both friendly and league games, but, most importantly, even though we lost both games I don't think any player actually realised and everyone went home happy and smiling.

A big thanks to all our parents who managed to get 17 players to the ground in rush hour all in time to play their part, its very much a team effort and this season everyone has been willing to help, its been great.

We still have one more game to play, at home against Poynton, date yet to be finalised, but with 6 wins under our belt this has been a great season.

Well done to the friendly team, we fielded a young side and only captain David had league experience, but they battled hard and certainly looked like they enjoyed it gaining good match experience.

The league match started well with captain Lewis winning the toss and putting Prestbury in to bat first. Our bowling got off to an amazing start with Lewis and Daniel taking 2 wickets each and restricting them to 6 runs in 4 overs !!

Prestbury then got a grip of the game but our bowlers have improved greatly and kept the boundaries to a minimum, our fielding was also very efficient with great backing up and despite hitting the wickets 3 times we only got 1 more wicket and they finished on 271, a very good score.

Dan and Lewis opened our batting and faced their strongest bowler but still managed 17 runs and lost only 2 wickets between them. In stepped Nathan and Max who had to face a rare thing at this age, a good spin bowler, Max did some excellent defensive work and Nathan hit a great 17 runs and again both only lost 1 wicket each.

We needed runs and the last 4 batsmen, George, Alex, Henry and Harry, all had a good go, only loosing 1 more wicket between them, but they really had to work hard, boundaries were so close and they managed 21 singles between them, if any 2 of those shots had hit the boudary we would have won.

We finished 6 runs short on 265, unlucky but well done to everyone.

My man of the match was George, he has greatly improved his game in all aspects, batting, bowling and especially fielding and had an excellent game, well done George.

See you at training, cheers Nick

U9 Sat 25 v Romiley & Mon 27 June v Macclesfield

Our seventh and eighth matches have been played over the last 3 days with mixed fortunes.

We played Romiley on a damp Saturday morning but unfortunately our friendly game had to be cancelled due to the pitch condidtions after trying both our ground and Romileys. We just got away with playing our league match and had to cover where our groundsman Geoff had seeded and play around these areas.

Captain Dan won the toss and put Romiley in to bat first, they were a very solid team not giving anything away, they batted well scoring 307 but with some good bowling and fielding we took seven wickets, Nathan 3, Lewis 2, George and Max one a piece making their final score 286.

Every Romiley player bowled well but our team kept their heads up and had a really good go in poor conditions managing 268 runs but conceeding 8 wickets finishing on 244, our second loss of the season.

Again several players could have been man of the match, Harry's great batting scoring 19 and Nathan's bowling but this game I will give to Dan, well deserved as he had to open our batting and gave us great hope when he hit a 4 off their first bowl. He also bowled 2 great overs with Romiley only scoring 1 run off each over, well done Dan.

Last night we played Macclesfield again at home, we made a few changes to the team giving as many players as possible a chance and put together a friendly team who did very well enjoying their cricket and winning comfortably which is always a welcome bonus, well done to them, a great performance.

In the league match Captain William lost the toss and Macc put us in to bat first. Arron and Alistair opened facing their best bowler and were very solid with some good defensive batting scoring 7 but most importantly only conceeding one wicket. Then Lewis and William stepped in again only conceeding one wicket but scoring a healthy 26, Harry and Andrew added 15 runs and the last pair, Henry and Max scored 20 totalling 296 with the extras. It was a very good overall batting performance with all the players conceeding only 5 wickets finishing on 281.

Our bowling was excellent with lots of good distance and accuracy, we restricted them to 274 runs and got 6 wickets resulting in our 6th win of the season, well done to everyone.

The best piece of action our last bowl, we were having a go at the players as in the last 2 overs they were intent on throwing the ball as hard as possible at the stumps to get a wicket and the ball was flying everywhere, but, Macc had to go for runs resulting in a great race with their batsman and our Max, ball in hand, running for the stumps Max just getting there first and getting our 6th wicket, well done Max.

Again there were lots of man of the matches but last nights goes to Harry, he hit 3 fours and 3 singles, conceeded no wickets, bowled beautifully taking 2 wickets and Macc only getting 1 run off his 2 overs, along with the whole squad he is having a great season, well done Harry.

A big thank you to all our helpers, we are very lucky this season we have umpires, scorers, coaches, refreshment suppliers, tuck shop runners, bar staff and loads of supporters thank you all its great teamwork.

Two matches left, next Thursday the 7th away at Prestbury (this has been altered since the original date) and Tuesday the 12th home to Poynton, I will check on friendlies and organise teams asap.

See you Friday, cheers Nick.

12th June 2011 U13 Appleton Away

This was one of our best games yet, we won the toss and opted to field first, the ground was wet but the sun was shining…….for a while anyway, it started to rain in the 3rd over and didn’t stop – but neither did we. It took a while for us to take our first wicket, we had the opportunity to get Appleton out a few times but we need to move quicker in the field and dive for catches if necessary. Our first wicket came in the 12th over from a great bowl by Travis, more wickets followed from our 7th bowler James Durcan his first over was astounding (. . . W W 1) the first wicket came from a brilliant catch by Ryan Wilson, the next one was bowled. His next 2 overs both brought wickets with catches from Ryan Wilson and Will Mairs great bowling stats James 4 -10!! George Quayle then took his first wicket from a catch by Frazer. Appleton finished their innings on 129.

Frazer was the star of our batting this time, retiring at 30 for the first time this season, well done! I am also delighted to report that our running between the wickets has improved immensely and we were taking chances, getting quick singles and generally competing. George Crompton managed to stay in for quite a few overs, hitting some good balls, just need to run more or hit harder and get some boundaries. Unlike most of our other games we have kept the ball down and only 2 of our wickets were catches this time round – well done chaps, training is working.

We didn’t win but my target of 100 runs was hit for the first time ever – we finished this game with an amazing 103, I do believe the treats are on me !!

Steph

U9s v Marple Fri 10 June
Congratulations to our players for another great performance beating Marple 295 to 262, and congratulations to our friendly team who also had a great evening with lots of our younger future players getting great experience, having a good time and also winning well done.

Thanks to all our helpers and supporters you made it a thoroughly enjoyable evening and it cannot be done without you, especially with 2 teams.

Captain George won the toss and put Marple in to bat first. Lewis and Dan opened our bowling restricting them to 11 runs in 4 overs and this continued with Marple hitting the boundary only 5 times and Henry getting a maiden over. Our fielding was also on form with good backing up, some very quick stops and throws and Harry just dropping what would have been an amazing catch but he still converted a 6 to a single run.

Lewis and Dan opened our batting getting 31 runs and then our man of the match, Henry, hit 5 fours and a single for 21, along with his solid wicket keeping it was a great performance well done Henry.
Nathan had another great innings scoring 23 and along with good solid performances from David, Max, Harry and George we finished on 295, 33 runs ahead of Marple, well done everyone.

Our next match is at home against Romiley on Saturday 25th June and then again at home on the Monday, 27th, against Macclesfield.

Cheers Nick

U11 v Stockport Georgians Mon 6 June
Monday night proved to be another step up the steep learning curve for our u11s. Batting first, away to Stockport Georgians, our innings began fairly well but unfortunately fell away towards the end. We closed our innings on 250 but unfortunately lost 12 wickets resulting in a net score of 202. Our top scorer was Joe Clarke with 11 not out. Although Georgians are a very strong side the number of wickets that we are losing is a cause for concern and is something we will continue to focus on during our Friday night sessions.

Although our bowling is improving match on match, it was always going to struggle against a solid Georgians batting line up. With solid stroke play our host amassed a convincing 369 for the loss of one wicket (365 net). Despite the defeat, our inexperienced team continued to do their best until the very end and should be pleased with their efforts once again.

Moment of the Match. Zach Ashley. ‘Taking one for the team’ on more than one occasion with some great fielding. Good stuff Zach, well played.

Man of the Match. Adam Wilkinson. One of our few ‘not out’ batsman and the only bowler to take a wicket. Well done Adam.

Well done everyone and see you on Friday

Darren

U9 Match report Bramhall CC v Bredbury St Marks Friday 3rd June 2011

Alistair was captain and won the toss. He decided to put Bramhall in to bat first.

Bredbury started off the brighter with some quick fielding producing some run outs early on.

All pairs bowled well however a few too many wides were bowled. The backing up and communication was again excellent.

One memorable moment was Dan taking a good catch leg side of nathans bowling.

Due to good bowling and fielding Bramhall were restricted to 266.

Harry and Lewis opened the batting and put on a quick 33 runs. Both batsmen communicates well taking advantage of overthrows and scoring some good boundaries. Neither losing a wicket.

Next in was Alistair and Arron who kept the score ticking over and defended well against some good straight bowling from Bramhall.

Henry and max again stood firm against some excellent bowling from Bramhall. Not many wides were given away. But again both boys took advantage of any overthrows and ran well between the wickets. It took an amazing throw from the deep to run Henry out. The throw was fast and accurate a good effort by Bramhall.

Last in was Nathan and Dan. Both boys accelerated the score further getting some needed boundaries and again taking advantage of overthrows. Good communication by both boys again and no wickets lost.

I give man of the match to Nathan. Not only for his straight bowling and high score of 19 runs. But for doing all this whilst suffering badly with hayfever

In the end a good round performance between the two sides.

Final score Bramhall 266 Bredbury 277

Marc Foster

U13 v Hyde Sunday 5 June
Well that was quick, probably the fastest game of cricket yet!!

Both teams were men down today, Hyde were playing with 8 and we were playing with 10. Hyde won the toss and decided to field first. I was quite hopeful as there were a lot of gaps in the field and if we played that to our advantage we could have been onto the first win of the season. It didn’t start off very well though, Jordon and Fraser opened our innings but Fraser was caught very quickly having only faced 3 balls. Will stepped in and things were looking up, our running between the wickets training session seems to have hit home, they ran singles, a couple of 2’s and a 3, got a couple of boundaries and then…………caught for 12! In went Connor who stayed in for the longest facing 15 balls, scoring 8 runs, Jordan was caught by the bowler for 4 and then it all went to pot! Callum, Tom, George Q, Ed and George Armitage joined Fraser in being out for ducks, Ryan Wilson was out for 1, we managed to stay in for 9 overs. It was not our finest hour …… or finest half hour come to think of it.

George Armitage was our man of the match today for stepping up and deciding to bowl his first over, he put in a great effort today and that’s all I ask! George Quayle also bowled his first over and as they had 29 in 3 overs that was the end of that.

Now I know you all enjoyed our mornings session and we had a good laugh but todays performance was not one I want us to repeat. Let’s look forward to our next match and every single player needs to improve on this week’s performance!

Onwards and Upwards – see you all at training on Friday!

Steph

U11 Fri 27 and Mon 30 May
Two matches to report to you about, firstly our game at Marple last Friday. As you will know I was away, but the team was looked after by the very capable Simon, Daniels Dad. Batting first we scored a very credible 287 (our highest gross score of the season so far). Unfortunately we lost 13 wickets (also our highest tally of the season!) closing our innings on 235 net. Charlie Ainsworth top scored hitting five 4’s in a score of 21 with Joe Clarke scoring 17 including a six! Well done boys.
Although our bowlers toiled hard and showed glimpses of their best ,a strong Marple batting line up scored a comfortable 312 for 3 (312 net) Joe Clarke, Adam Millns and Reece Currie all taking a wicket each. A disappointing result especially the number of wickets lost whilst batting but many good points to encourage everyone.

Moment of the Match. Easy one really! Joe Clarke for his pull shot to square leg for six. Well done Joe!

Man of the Match. Reece Currie. 10 not out whilst batting and 1 wicket for only four runs off his two overs. Good stuff Reece

A big thank you to Simon for looking after things, Paul Wilkinson for scoring and everyone that helped out on Friday.

On Monday night we played hosts to Prestbury. Having lost the toss and invited to bat Captain Ewan Cochrane opened the innings with a respectable 5 no. Unfortunately he was our only batsman of the evening to remain not out. Once again our batting proved to be disappointing as we lost a total of 15 wickets, ending our innings on 201 net. Although Prestbury are a very strong side and will undoubtedly be challenging for the league this season, to lose so many wickets is something that we need to address if we are to improve our results. On the positive side our bowling and fielding is continuing to improve with every game and we managed to take 9 Prestbury wickets, although they finally won the match with a score of 281 net. A special mention for Daniel Hollingworth and Harrison Slim, both playing their first matches. Both scored runs whilst batting and took wickets while bowling. Great start boys keep it up!

Moment of the Match. Harrison Slim for a sharp bit of fielding. Not only stopping the ball as it fizzed towards him, but a great pick up and return to the wicket keeper nearly resulting in a run out. Good work Harrison.

Man of the Match. Sean Currie. Two wickets whilst bowling but more over a fantastic fielding display stopping everything that was hit towards him and taking four catches! Brilliant Sean.

Everyone should be pleased with their efforts and continued progress in both games. Keep up the good work everyone.

In view of the increased numbers now attending on a Friday night, we have decided to revert back to the training times of last season and begin our sessions at 5.30 until 7.00, enabling everyone to have some much needed batting practice as well as working on other skills out of the nets. I hope you can all make it.

Once again well done everyone and see you no Friday.

U9 v Stockport Georgians Tues 24 May Home

Hello everyone,

Last night we suffered our first defeat of the season despite some heroic efforts from our players, we lost 291 to 252 against a very well organised Stockport Georgians.

Last night also reminded me of what its all about at this level, I forgot and became too involved in our performance. We are all here to learn and gain experience to move on to the older age groups but we must not forget to enjoy the game no matter what the result is.

We must still respect the game and the only problem we had last night was lack of concentration which really showed loosing 5 wickets (7 in total along with 2 catches) to run outs and not supporting our fellow team mates during our batting, but instead messing about, but it was getting late and a bit cool so we will keep an eye on them next game.

Lewis was again man of the match with another excellent batting performance partnering captain Harry, Alistair and Andrew (first league game) followed and did very well loosing only 2 wickets between the four of them. Then Nathan and George stepped in hitting some good shots but had a bit of difficulty in knowing when or when not to to run and had a couple of mishaps, we could have scored 100 more if they had not kept stopping to see if it was going for a four. The last pair were Henry and Daniel who again hit some great shots but had to face Stockports best bowler (who also played for Lancashire) and in the end not one of our team were actually bowled out.

Our bowling is getting better and better with players who previously struggled now hitting the target and we got 5 wickets with 2 middle stumpers by Daniel and Henry. Our fielding at times was brilliant with some excellent stops and throws with lots of effort but we must try not to touch on the rope when stopping these fours as they still count.

Well done to all the team and once again many thanks to all our helpers, Sie umpired superbly and the ladies kept everyone fuelled with drinks and sweets and collected lots of money, nice one.

Our next game is Friday 3rd June and we will hopefully be playing 2 matches, one league and one friendly, so could anyone who can not make 6 o-clock at Bramhall next Friday please let me know by this Friday so we can organise a couple of teams.

See you Friday, cheers Nick

U11 v Woodley 23 May Friendly
We played our third match of the season on Sunday morning in a hastily arranged friendly at Woodley and got our first victory.

In drizzly conditions batting first we ironically posted our lowest total of the season so far scoring 263 for 6 (net 233). Captain Callum Lambert 4 n.o., Ewan Cochrane 5 n.o. and Jack Murphy top scored with 9 n.o. Although our lowest total it was also the lowest number of wickets that we have conceded and proves the importance of protecting those stumps! Well done boys.

As in previous games our bowling proved to be our strong point. Opening bowlers Callum Lambert and Jack Whitehead were particularly economical and only conceded 5 runs off the opening four overs. Debutants Henry Armitage (from the u9’s) and Josh Ireton backed up their solid batting performances with accurate overs and tidy fielding. Despite some middle order resistance from Tom Hotson (14) we restricted Woodley to 267 for 9 (net 222) Our top bowler was Ewan Cochrane taking 3 wickets for 1 run!

Although the conditions were miserable and cold our 11 run victory sent everyone home with a smile on their face. A good performance from all and a great result. Well played everyone.

Man of the Match – Joe Clarke. 7 runs with the bat, a terrific wicket keeping display and a wicket with the final ball of the innings. Well done Joe.
Moment of the Match – Josh Ireton. A great shot through mid-on for four in his first competitive match. Well done Josh.

See you soon,
Darren

U9s v Heaton Mersey Sat 21 May
Despite cool and changeable weather the team put in a great performance and notched up their third win. Captain Lewis lost the toss and Heaton Mersey chose to bat second. Lewis and Matthew opened the batting and put in a great performance with man of the match Lewis scoring 38 runs one of our highest ever scores. Henry and Alex followed putting in a solid performance against some very difficult bowling, and then Harry and George notched up 40 between them despite attempting a few risky sneaky singles. First timer Sam and Max completed our batting again very expertly protecting the wicket well and over all 16 overs we only lost 2 wickets.

Heaton Mersey then faced some of the best bowling I have seen at this level, man of the match Lewis opened with a maden over with a wicket and then in his second over he took another 2 wickets and the only run the oposition got of him was a single bye. The rest of the team followed and all put in good bowling performancies backed up with great fielding restricting the oposition to 68 runs and taking 5 wickets, the match finished Bredbury 307 Heaton Mersey 253, well done to everyone especially new boy Sam, our young stand in Matthew and of course Lewis.
A big thank you also to our great helpers during the day, umpire Marc, score board Iain, our supporters and fantastic refreshment suppliers Adele and Karen.

U11 v Disley Mon 16 May
Another good performance from the u11s this week, albeit an agonising defeat at home to Disley.

In damp, drizzly conditions captain Sean Currie won the toss and rightly elected to field. After a brisk start from the visitors our bowlers began to take control and restrict Disley to 268 for 6 (244 net). Once again our fielding was much improved from last season and our bowling much more accurate. All our bowlers should be pleased with their performance in particular Alex Suett and Ewan Cochrane who both ended with 2 wickets for 2 runs from their overs. Well done boys.

Our reply also began at pace with Sean Currie (5) and Ewan Cochrane (16) putting on 21 for the first pairing. Despite this solid start our remaining batsman found it difficult to score off the Disley bowling with Reece Currie(13) the only other batsmen to register double figures. As the final over began we had a slender lead of three runs. In the fading light and against the quickest bowler of the evening we managed to hold out until the very last ball before we were bowled to end our innings on 283 for 10 (243 net). One run short!

Although a huge disappointment to be so close, everyone should, once again, be proud of their efforts and improved performances. If we continue to progress, our first victory of the season will be just around the corner. Well done everyone and keep up the good work.

Man of the Match – Ewan Cochrane. Scored 16 with bat and 2 for 2 runs whilst bowling. Brilliant!
Moment of the Match – Jack Whitehead. Superb flick off his toes to send the ball crashing to the square leg boudary. Well played Jack.

See you Friday,

Darren H

15/05/2011 Bredbury St Marks vs Marple

Well it wasn’t what you’d call cricket weather that’s for sure, BSMCC won the toss and decided to field first, Marple started there innings well, with 2 players retiring before the rain started, and the shout of “COVVVEERRRRRSSSSSS” was heard, I was under strict instructions from Mr Mountford to put the covers on if it started raining as the first team had a cup match in the afternoon. We gave it 10 minutes and the rain stopped for a while so after checking the pitch we decided to play on.

Off came the covers, and Marple finished their innings on 192, we had some great bowling from Travis who took his first 2 wickets of the season, more wickets came from George, Frazer and Will with some fabulous catches from Matt and Connor. We had a very quick turnaround as the skies started darkening again, we managed to get in 9 overs before the cry of COVERRRRSSSS was heard again, due to the league rules we would have had to play a full 15 overs for the match to be deemed as played and the scores worked out on run rate so the result had to classed as Abandoned.

We have away a lot of extras this time round so need to tighten up on our bowling, with 29 wides given it was like another of their players retiring! Guess what we’re working on in training?

Our man of the match this week was Frazer who put in a good batting performance and some excellent bowling only giving away 16 runs from his 4 overs and taking 1 wicket. Well Done Frazer!

Steph

Saturday the 14th May at 9.30 witnessed the arrival of the mighty BSMCC Under 9's at the home of Alderley Edge CC. It was a cold, damp and changeable morning and having won the toss Henry decided to let Alderley bat first. In the field Bredbury were awesome, there was hardly a bad ball and the standard of fielding was extemely high. This was the product of good field setting and thoughtful bowling. The result was that Alderley were held to a score in the low fifties. With the bat each and every BSMCC player was focused and played their part in reaching a great score in the late sixties. Every player in a BSMCC shirt is to be commended for their part in this great victory. All eight players deserve man of the match. However, and only because I have to I will give the award to Max, who was excellent, coming in at the end with Dan when the pressure was really on and the pair did not concede a single wicket with Max scoring the highest runs with 12, well done Max. Nathan and George both bowled maden overs and along with David, Harry, Alistair and Henry had a great game, well done to them all.

Under 18 v Disley 10/5/11

Another great performance so us convincingly beat Disley this week. Again, this was with only one U18 in the side.

Disley batted first and we bowled them out for 68, the wickets were shared amongst all the bowlers which is very encouriging for the rest of the season.

In reply Ryan was out for 10 and James and Dylan took us to our target.

That is two games played, won two and lost only one wicket.

Well done lads, keep it up.

The team for Marple at home next week is now on the web site.

Joe

U13 v Stockport Georgians Sunday 8 May

Our first game at home this season was against Stockport Georgians, Georgians won the toss and decided to bat first of all, they got a big score of 161 but we did some brilliant fielding. Matthew Hart was standing at point and had a busy morning making a lot of stops and minimising any boundaries, Connor Bass was playing his debut and showed some real potential, made a real impact in the field stopping boundaries and made a superb catch and soon after took his first wicket by bowling and catching, well done Connor. Frazer bowled and caught another player – brilliant, more catches were made by Callum Clarke who was trying out keeping for the first time and doing a cracking job. Louis Anthony nearly took a stunning catch but just missed, so close to being my moment of the match! George Armitage, where did that throwing arm come from? Will Mairs took 3 wickets, 2 in 1 over. It was an impressive session……..then we started our batting innings, this was not our finest hour with 6 ducks and only Jordon, who gave a brilliant performance staying in for 14 of our 16 batting overs scoring over 10, well done Jordan your score of 15 was really good.

Friday training is going to be about batting, we’ll do defensive and attacking batting, with the aim of staying in for the full 24 overs, the longer we stay in the more runs we get, we’re against Marple on 15/05/2011 and we need to give it our best shot.

Man of The Match this week goes to Connor Bass – great effort – well done.

Under 18 v Prestbury

What a great start to the season. Despite having 6 players not available and not one U18 in the team we produced agreat performance and won the game by 10 runs.
Winning the toss, Ryan M elected to bat and we put on 136 without loss. Ryan M and James both retired on 40 and 41 respectively and Dylan got 26no and Aaron 14no.
In reply Disley made a good start with their opener and captain, T Livesy, retiring on 42. Batsman 3 and 4 scored 24 and 33 respectively but we continued to gat wickets at crucial times and, with 3 overs remaining, Prestbury needed 20 to win with 4 wickets in hand. Andy McHale then produvced a great over conceeding only 2 runs and Andy bowled the penultimate over conceeding 7 runs but taking a wicket.
The final over, Prestbury need 12 to win woth
3 wickets in hand. Enter Dylan to bowol the last over. The figures for this last over were W W O W and we won the game. What a performance.
Well done boys on a great win and a big thanks to Andy Phillips, Ollie Usher, Chris Horsey and Aaron McRoberts for standing in. We would not have been able to field a team without you.

Can I let all my players know that I need to be advised by 7pm each Friday if you are not available and I will be putting the team and details on the web site each weekend, I do not intend to make phone calls to each of you.

Joe Beckett

U11 3 May
First match of the season last night at Woodford and a great opening display despite losing.

Captain for the evening Adam Millns lost the toss and was asked to bat. Although we lost a few more wickets than we would have liked there were some good batting performances from Joe Clarke (5 no), Jack Murphy (11no)and some lovely shots from Sean Currie. Our innings finished on 277 for 9 (net 241)

The second half of the game was by far the better and was very impressive for the first match of the season. Our bowling was very accurate (only 7 wides) and we managed to push Woodford all the way to the final over, taking 7 wickets for 286 (net 254). A loss of just 13 runs. Pick of our bowling was Ewan Cochrane 2 wickets for 6 runs, Jack Murphy 1 for 3 runs, both playing their first u11s match, and captain Millns only conceding 2 runs off his two overs.

Best part of our game was undoubtedly our fielding with some excellent boundary stops, solid catching and back up fielding. Everyone should be extremely pleased and congratulated on their performance last night. If we continue to play as we did we will soon have our first victory of the season.

Man of the Match – Jack Murphy. 11 not out and 1 for 3 in his first u11s match. Well done Jack
Moment of the Match – Sean Currie. A solid catch taken at Mid-on that maybe a bit sore today! Well done Sean

Well played everyone.

Don’t forget Friday outdoor training at the club 5.45 to 6.50.

See you soon,
Darren

U13 v Heaton Mersey (Away) 01/05/2011

Today, we played Heaton Mersey in our first league game of the season. We were down to 10 men, Joe Clarke from U11’s was going to stand in for us but was ill and could not play, get better soon Joe. Unfortunately we lost but we played well and had some outstanding individual performances such as George Crompton who got an amazing bowled wicket, well done mate! Not to sound cocky but I got 40 runs in the game, that’s more than I got in the whole of last season! Henry Armitage from U9’s stepped in for us as our 11th fielder and gave an exceptional performance in the field, stopping some boundaries and took a brilliant shot at the stumps knocking the bails off, unfortunately their batsman made it just in time. Ed Bradshaw got his first catch as wicket keeper, good reflexes Ed, keep it up. We need to be careful about our overthrows and still run more between the wickets but we have improved already since out last game, lets keep it up. I could go on all day how you all did amazingly but I’ve only got a paragraph so all in all we lost but you all played well and I can’t wait to get out there next week and show Stockport Georgians how we can play. Well Done Lads!!

Match Report 29/03/2011

It was a tough one this time, we were playing Stockport Georgians again and were probably a little apprehensive yet determined. We started off really well, Jordan, our Captain decided to field first. Our fielding is getting better and better and each week, Steve was really impressed with the improvements made from our first match to this one. We had some great bowling, with our first wicket being taken by Travis in the first over of the game. Everyone was stopping the ball before it was hitting the walls limiting the amount of runs scored and this weeks catch of the match has to go to Nathan, absolutely brilliant – dived to the floor to make a superb catch – couldn’t fault it – a great piece of cricket and one I won’t forget! We nearly had a clash of heads when both Will and Reece went for the same ball, but Reece caught it and after crawling out from underneath Will held the ball aloft to show another great catch. We were doing really well up until Georgians last batting pair who ran rings round us unfortunately, but we know what to do next time.

Our batting let us down a bit this week, although with the ball sliding along the floor the deliveries were hard to get anything from, we actually managed to score 174 runs but after the wickets had been deducted we were back down to 106. A tough one!!

Each and everyone of you have had brilliant moments in these matches, lets make sure we all have another one in the match on 5th April. Lets go get ‘em!

22nd March

BSMCC vs Bramhall, first match of the Trophy competition.

Our team this week was Sean Currie (Captain), Reece Currie, George Armitage, Henry Armitage, Travis Coulson. Jordon Brooks, Adam Milnes, Ed Bradshaw.

WICKET-TASTIC!!! Our bowling and fielding is improving week on week, we’re catching more, throwing more accurately and getting more wickets. Travis made some important stops, limiting the 4s which Bramhall were going for and bowling pretty much on target each time, not many runs came from your overs Travis, keep this up through the summer and we’ll be off to a great start! Henry, the youngest member of our team this week bowled a good wicket and both Ed and Reece nearly caught Bramhall out from Henry’s bowling. Sean, Adam, Reece all bowled impressive wickets. Jordon came through, as ever, with some excellent bowling, hitting the middle stump!! HOWZAT!! Ed, what a superstar, good straight bowling, great stops and stumped the wickets – TWICE IN A ROW!!!

We had a troubled batting performance this week meaning we didn’t win, it was 207 runs to 151. We need to stay focussed on scoring runs, not trying to slog the ball every time, we were trying too hard to hit 4s and 6s where we could have hit 2s and 3s and we ended up missing quite a few balls. There were a lot of difficult deliveries to strike but if you think about how you can play the shot, even if its right in front of you, you can still run while the fielders are trying to get to it. The only other thing I want to mention on our batting is make sure you talk to each other.

I only have one more thing to mention, GEORGE, GEORGE, GEORGE, Amazing. You bowled and caught it for one wicket and then you caught another one. Keep that up Mr Armitage and we’ll be changing your surname to Collingwood!

Good effort lads, I really hope you are enjoying this as much as I am, thank you for your performances so far!

Tues 1 March 2011
What a cracking start to the competition, Bredbury 128 runs, Woodford 116.

This week we faced Woodford, the previous game took longer than expected so our overs were reduced to 4 balls per over instead of 6, 16 overs each innings. We were fielding first of all and even though Reece and Sean our wicket-keepers had odd gloves which were far too big, they put in a sterling effort! There was some great bowling especially from Adam Milnes, his second over consisted of 2 dot balls and 2 wickets – brilliant!! We gave away quite a few wide balls but so did Woodford so they cancelled each other out, it’s something to work on for next week. It was a close game up to the last pair to bat, after a tentative start, Jordan and Travis soon got into the swing of things and Jordan gave us the shot of the match, forward drive, straight through one of the fielders legs, a great 4!!

Here’s hoping for a similar win next week when we face Stockport Georgians.

Well done lads, great effort all round.

Tues 8 March
Our 2nd match in the competition was against Stockport Georgians. This wasn’t our best performance and hopefully not one we will be repeating any time soon. As you have probably gathered, we lost this game, 216 runs to 116, each team starts on 100 runs. We took 4 wickets versus Stockport Goergians 19, although losing 4 runs for every wicket we did well not to finish with a minus figure! If we can get runs next week like we did this week without losing many wickets we’ll be on to a good thing.

Our team this week consisted of Will Mairs, Jordan Brookes, Travis Coulson, George Armitage, Ed Bradshaw, Reece Currie, Sean Currie and Adam Milnes. We still need to work on the bowling as we gave away quite a few runs bowling wide again. There was some great fielding from Travis, Will and Adam. Sean and Reece did some great bowling and batting. We had some opportunities to make some good catches but for one reason and another couldn’t quite keep hold of the ball, although there were some excellent stops enabling us to limit the amount runs being scored.

Onwards and upwards lads lets show ‘em what we can do next week!

Tuesday 15th March 2011

We won our first match, we lost our second match and we needed to win our third match to qualify for the Trophy rounds.

We took away a very valuable lesson last week and after spending our Sunday evening training session target bowling and catching it most certainly paid off.

What can I say? Talk about grinning like a Cheshire Cat, you won’t be able to wipe this one off my face for a while. Tonight we played Hazel Grove and won by 2 runs, final score 194 to 192, unfortunately they are the only stats I can give you on this match, in my excitement I forgot to ask about wickets so please accept my apologies and I will try harder next time J.

Our captain this week was Travis Coulson, the rest of team consisted of Tom Bown, Will Mairs, Jordon Brookes, George Armitage, Sean Currie, Reece Currie and Adam Milnes.

Every single one of the team brought their ‘A’ game with them. Jordan started strongly and kept the pace going, giving us a solid start to the match with Travis belting our first 4, a foot further and it would have been a 6! George gave us a brilliant performance at the crease, striking most of his balls for 2s and 3s – I am impressed! Catch of the Match has to go to Travis, he got under the ball with a steady base and kept hold of it (still smiling here!) Sean and Reece, blimey, you’re no good for my stress levels. It’s all those cheeky runs that win it, yes, you may have got run out but you made up for it with the amount of runs you scored, even running 4 at one point – outstanding.

Our first wicket was a catch from Adam standing at Point then we had Travis’ catch of the match. Will made some great stops limiting the runs scored and dived for one catch, slid his hands just underneath as the ball fell to the ground, spectacular, unfortunately, it came off a no-ball but all the same, great performance, another catch from Tom Bown who bowled quite a slow ball which came straight back to him. Tom’s first wicket!! There was some impressive bowling this week from Tom who bowled 2 overs, gave away 1 run and got 1 wicket and Will whose scorecard shows 2 overs, 3 runs and 2 wickets.

Enjoy your win lads, you deserved it tonight.
